1982 (Statik Selektah & Termanology) - Up Every Night

2012 was a crazy year... and album, that’s how hip-hop heads worldwide will remember it. Following in the footsteps of great DJ/Producer and MC duos like Eric B. & Rakim and Gang Starr, Statik Selektah & Termanology once again combine to form the powerhouse group 1982. The formula is perfected and flawless as Statik crafts the perfect sonic landscapes for Term’s more mature and sophisticated delivery; see the uplifting first single “Shining.” Holding Term down on the microphone side of things are great guest spots from some of the hottest new talent in the game; Mac Miller, Roc Marciano and Freddie Gibbs blend nicely with iconoclasts Bun B., Havoc of Mobb Deep and Lil Fame of M.O.P and Shawn Stockman from Boyz 2 Men. 2012 has already garnered high praise as this month’s Source Magazine has given the full length it’s coveted “Independent’s Day” column and XXL has a great review ready for it’s May 22nd issue. The duo will also hit the road in both the states and abroad, April - July for full tour support of the album. 2012 will indeed be the year of 1982. Statik & Termanology’s 2012 LP will be released on 5-22-2012

Hasan Salaam - Miss America (Prod. by Snowgoons f/ DJ GI Joe)

The 3rd single off the Music Is My Weapon project. Miss America addresses the harsh realities of the past and present actions and policies of the United States. The video depicts how we must all accept some blame for the injustices in society and play our part in correcting them. If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem. The concept behind Hasan Salaam's EP "Music Is My Weapon" is the belief that music can be used as a powerful tool in the pursuit of freedom, justice, and equality. With the release of the project, Hasan is aiming to prove that music can change people's lives, literally. All profits from the sale of the EP will be used to fund a school, clean water well, and medical clinic in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. The school has already been completed, and construction of the well is underway. In November 2010, Hasan became the first U.S hip hop artist to ever perform in Bissau. On the same trip he worked with the young artists, taught creative writing to the youth, and headlined a concert to promote freedom of speech. The "Music Is My Weapon" project is the next step, in an effort to provide change to a country that remains one of the poorest and least politically stable in the world.

The album continues to gain acclaim as Sean is preparing to tour the east coast. About the album: A gritty 90's style album for those who grew up on Illmatic, Midnight Marauders, Only Built for Cuban Links, Moment of Truth, and Ready to Die. Behind The Scale is unfiltered, real sh*t on tape. The album was produced, mixed, and arranged by Kev Brown with additional production from Oddisee, Dunc, Kenn Wood, and Quartermaine.

"Embracing Rejection is about the trials and tribulations of a starving artist trying to pave her way into an industry that’s not particularly in her favor. Rejection is a big part of life and once I was able to except it, I was able to use if for encouragement." Rejection is the follow-up to last year's Significant Wizdom EP, produced entirely by Gee Wiz, which was preceded by The Transition (see her videos for "Lovely Imperfections" and "Drifting"). Moe Pope - Dead Kennedy's" (Feat. Slaine)

Moe Pope's career first took off in the early 2000s with the Bay Area-based hip-hop band Mission (who later became known as Crown City Rockers). After a series of 12"s, Pope appeared on the group's LP, One, in 2001, before deciding to return to Boston in order to look after his daughter. Back in his hometown, he connected with rapper/producer Insight and his five-man outfit, Electric (aka Electric Company).

Along with members Anonymous and Raheem Jamal, Pope broke off from Electric to form Project Move, issuing their debut album, Love Gone Wrong/Butterfly Theory, in 2006. As each group member went off to make solo records, Pope reunited with his former Crown City cohort Headnodic for the well received collaborative album Megaphone in 2008.

In 2010, Moe released his critically acclaimed Life After God LP, which was highlighted by iTunes on its 2010 “Rewind List.” Currently, Moe Pope is working on a few new projects, with a new production partner and a new label for his latest and most mature works to date. Here is a sampling of some of that new work as Moe collaborates with fellow Boston spitta Slaine on “Dead Kennedy’s.”

Chuuwee - West Francia

Chuuwee’s Crown Me King will serve as the prelude to his long-awaited official solo-debut, Wild Style, which will be released on 5-29-2012 via Amalgam Digital. Whereas Chuuwee’s previous efforts were hybrid sub-genres he created such as “neo-boombap” (neo-soul meets boom-bap) or “hooliganarism” which Chuuwee describes as Treach of Naughty By Nature meets Wakka Flakka Flame, Wild Style can be summarized as pure 90s Hip Hop, where he is taking the classic elements of the golden era with the look, sound and the feel and then applying them to the present day. Inspired by Gang Starr, A Tribe Called Quest, Big L, De La Soul with even hints of DMX, Wild Style promises to be Chuuwee’s break-out project, one that will showcase him as being a frontrunner lyricist from Hip-Hop’s new school; while also paying homage and respect to the great pioneers of the 1990’s. “Wild Style is the album that’s going to eradicate weak rap off the face of the map. It is the return of real Hip-Hop. It’s pure and it’s not me trying to re-make it. It’s not me telling you its 90s Hip-Hop; it is 90s Hip-Hop” says Chuuwee.

After leaking the Don Trip assisted remix for “The Crown Don’t Make You King” on Monday, Chuuwee returns with the first video, “West Francia” from his forthcoming mixtape Crown Me King (4-24-2012).

Big Chill - Skittles And Tea (Trayvons Story)

Not a music video but this song most definitely deserved a post! This makes me really proud to be a hip hop/rap fan because, what other music genre is paying attention to important subjects like these?

On a rainy night in February, Trayvon Martin was returning to his father's girlfriend's house in Sanford, Florida, after a trip to the local 7-Eleven before the NBA all-star game. He carried a bag of Skittles and a can of Arizona iced tea for his little brother.

As he walked home, the unarmed 17-year-old spoke to his girlfriend in Miami via a hands-free earpiece on his cellphone he often used. He was spotted by George Zimmerman, a self-appointed neighbourhood watch volunteer, who was patrolling the gated community, the Retreat at Twin Lakes, in his vehicle.

Zimmerman called 911 to report what he described as Martin's "suspicious behaviour", telling the operator he looked like he was "up to no good, on drugs or something". Zimmerman was warned by the operator not to follow the teenager. But he did, getting out of his vehicle and taking a 9mm handgun with him.

Martin's girlfriend, who has provided her account to the family's lawyer Benjamin Crump, says Martin told her a stranger was following him. She told him to run home. Then the man reappeared behind him, she said. She then heard Martin say: "What are you following me for?" and someone else saying "What are you doing around here?". She then heard pushing, she said, because Martin's head set fell. At 7.16pm, four minutes after the call began, the phone went dead.

What happens in the last moment of Martin's life went unwitnessed by anyone other than Zimmerman.

According to neighbours, there was an altercation between the two men -- Zimmerman, weighing 250lbs and armed, and Martin, weighing 140lbs and unarmed.

Witnesses and 911 calls record one of the men in great distress crying out for help.

One woman anxiously says she can hear someone calling for help while in the background, a wailing voice pleads, "No! No!"

By the time police arrive on the scene, at 7.17pm, Martin lay fatally wounded by a gunshot to the chest.

Zimmerman has admitted to the killing but told police he fired in self-defence.

Three and a half weeks later, Zimmerman is still free.

The police chief has said that, because Zimmerman has made a statement of self-defence, and there is no evidence to dispute that, he has not been arrested.

On Monday, following a national outcry over the case, the US justice department announced that it would investigate the case, along with the FBI.
