In 2009, he stared a side project (Wizard Sleeve) with a close friend and frequent collaborator Lex One and one of their first releases “Me Plus You” released on Southern Fried Records (owned by fatboy slim) went on to be re-released on Ministry Of Sound as the smash hit "Riverside (Let's Go)" in 2010. "Riverside" went on to sell over 96,000 copies in its first week topping the iTunes sales charts and landing #1 on the charts. Due to this success, they were able to tour for two-years, building a strong international fan base and during that period of time we were blessed enough to work with top tier artists such as: Deadmau5, Diplo & Switch (Major Lazer), Dev, Tinie Tempah, Sway, S.A.S, Professor Green & others. In 2011 while on tour overseas with Wizard Sleeve, Mike Beatz released an independent solo-LP entitled Boom Bap with Norwegian producer Adonis. The solo-project was an ode to the classic sound and featured guest appearances from Guilty Simpson, Royce Da 5'9, AZ, Termanology, Skyzoo, Sha Stimuli & Wrekonize (¡MAYDAY!) and received 36,000 downloads in its first month and got placements on top sites such as XXL, Hip Hop Dx, Nah Right and even getting spins from DJ Premier on his radio show. Substantial - See Hear

The video, directed beautifully by Ariel “Rel” Nuñez, opens up with a local elder speaking on Baltimore’s history, more specifically how the city experienced a stark decline after the Disco era undoubtedly due to the recession and crack epidemic of the early 80’s. Sub picks up the gentleman’s baton and takes us on a tour of B-more, exposing us to the good and not-so-good. Still, throughout everything Substantial looks optimistically to the future. Don’t think Sub sees everything through rosy glasses, he acknowledges challenges and divisions within the city but lets us know he’s still invested in the place and the people because “that’s real unity, remembering it starts with you!” Produced by Algorythm of The Stuyvesants, the beat knocks with rare precision and the harmonies, both in the beat and provided by Steph The Sapphic Songstress, mirror the optimism in Substantial’s sharp lyrics. In an age where many MC’s are either jaded or out of touch, it’s refreshing to hear (and see) someone so focused on the future!

Mega Trife & Nonsense - Close To You

Official video for the fourth single from the forthcoming Mega Trife & Nonsense LP Full Circle. Album coming Winter '12.

Quelle Chris - Milky

Like a joyful walk through a sunny LA suburb, Quelle plays it cool with a laid-back visual for the equally relaxed track. Quelle isn't trying to berate you with rhymes this go round, he is more interested in creating a mood. For the self-produced effort Quelle flips a ballad on its head, stretching and morphing it into an awkwardly wonderful canvas. Clearly enjoying himself on "Milky", even Quelle's happenstance songs have an undeniable X factor. The man is hip-hop, straight up and down. Keep your ear tuned to Quelle Chris.

MHz Legacy - Gone

New music video from the hip hop group, MegaHertz.

J Bizness - Destination

From the J. Bizness album "Flight Plan". Short hip hop instrumental. J. Bizness' Flight Plan is well over 30,000 feet at this point. The instrumental album from the LA producer took off in August and has been exploring the skies since. Today, Mello Music Group and director Erick Lee share the visuals for "Destination," one of the more introspective, almost somber cuts from the LP. Airports and plane travel in general have always had a bit of an introspective element to them. They are places of connections, departures and arrivals. Playing off the dramatic vocal chop, pulsating drums and emotive synths, Lee visually matches the mood by seamlessly combining shots of the people and planes that make travel possible. Like a plane taking off just at dusk, "Destination" is moody and cerebral. You can catch a connection to Flight Plan at your local independent music retailer and online everywhere.

Stalley - Home To You (Feat. Wale)

Consequence - Something Light (Feat. Pooch Hall)

D-Sisive - All My Friends Are Dead

From D-Sisive latest album: "Jonestown 3. The Dream Is Over". Which has been released on November 18, 2012.

Saturday, November 17, 2012

D-Sisive - Don't Turn The Lights Out (Feat. Neverending White Lights)

There was a time in Derek Christoff's life when he didn't have many words. It's not that he didn't have a story; but he was stuck on the start. In the late 90s, the young MC known as D-Sisive came up quickly in the Toronto hip-hop community with a string of well-liked singles, but his burgeoning profile was stopped cold with the illness and death of both of his parents in a six-year span. Grief and depression stole his creativity and motivation for the better part of a decade, but in a moment fit for fable, his lyrical inspiration returned suddenly one day while singing along to the Beach Boys on the radio. It was the new start D-Sisive's story needed. And he hasn't stopped since. 2008's The Book EP was nominated for a Juno and its single "Nobody With A Notepad" won the SOCAN ECHO Songwriting Prize. 2009's Let the Children Die was long-listed for that year's Polaris Music Prize (and would later get an elaborate send-off with a full-band live funeral after legal issues forced it out of production). The same year, he released Jonestown as a free download. Less than a year later, we got Vaudeville, and a year after that, the Jonestown sequel, Jonestown 2: Jimmy Go Bye Bye, back and forth between his story and others'. Along the way were a series of Hijacked singles, with D-Sisive rapping his own words over the music of such songs as Grizzly Bear's "Two Weeks" and Sigur Ros' "Festival," an homage to just some of his comprehensive influences and tastes. On 11-13-2012 D-Sisive released his latest project, Run With the Creeps (TheD-LuxeEdition), it's a deeper dive back into himself and with his wide-open online look at the creative process along the way, his most honest yet. The hunger, pain, humor, and scrutiny have been on display every day; he's forever brazen in ambition and as credulous as a kid. He's writing the whole thing down, sparing no detail and certainly no time. D-Sisive is a disciple of hip-hop and a Bowie devotee. His eleven-year-old imagination was captured by Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff's "Nightmare On My Street," and later, by a legendary punk spectacle as heard on Creep single "GG Allin." There's something new everyday, and so he's running, trying to keep up with himself, trying to connect with his fellow creeps. There was a time he didn't have these words; didn't know how to say them. So now he's making sure he doesn’t miss even one.

J Bizness - Giraffes (Feat. The Black Opera)

Since taking off this past August, J. Bizness’ instrumental album Flight Plan has gotten much mileage with fans and critics alike. The album, the first in Mello Music Group’s Instrumental Series, is a collection of 24 selections with a crisp, spacey sound inspired by the freedom of flight. Back when Flight Plan dropped, as a celebratory bonus, MMG leaked a track by The Black Opera over one of J.’s heatrocks. The result was “Giraffes,” a testament to the sinister seduction of addiction. Now the involved parties are proud to share the visuals for “Giraffes,” directed by Andy Madeleine. The video features our perpetually loc’d out duo narrating the story of a fine young woman descending into the habit of getting high. Over J.’s smooth, electronic and airy production, TBO’s morality tale is a bang

Black Dave - On Da Map

A special delivery from Black Dave, who unveils his latest visual effort for “On Da Map.” The clip showcases the young rapper on a mission throughout New York with a mysterious package. What’s inside of the box isn’t exactly what you would expect, but you’ll have to see the video through until the end to find out. You can also grab the coinciding audio here which will also be featured on his upcoming mixtape. This song is nice, makes me want to hear more off this artist. Gonna give his mixtape a listen.

MidaZ The Beast - President (IMAKEMADBEATS Remix)

MidaZ the Beast's timely video for "President", off of his excellent LOOPS album.

The Black Opera - Balcony

Like a pair of film noir anti-heroes, The Black Opera don evening attire to celebrate the release of Libretto: Of King Legend with the release of the visual interpretation of Balcony. “Sometimes people choose to mask themselves with character.” The text that prefaces Andy Madeleine’s visuals for The Black Opera’s “Balcony,” could be read as a double entendre. The Black Opera is choosing to mask themselves with the TBO mythology as a way to reintroduce the raw back into the game while at the same time, the larger-than-life corny personas The Opera roasts in the songs lyrics are masking themselves in an absurd character - perpetuating as real.

Iron Solomon - Get On My Level

In March hip-hop artist Iron Solomon released his debut album, Monster. Ahead of its official release, GRAMMY.com has your exclusive first look at the video for "Get On My Level." "This album, the Monster album, is the album that I always dreamed of making," said Solomon. "Growing up in New York City, you have the highest-priced, high-rise apartments right across the street from the lowest-income housing projects. It's an overlapping interplay of cultures that crisscross at every corner and I want my music to be that way." Born in New York, Solomon was instantly attracted to hip-hop after listening to N.W.A.'s Straight Outta Compton. With an irreverent attitude and influences ranging from Nirvana to Jay-Z, Solomon emerged as a top freestyle artist at MC battles nationwide, garnering millions of YouTube viewers and praise from GRAMMY winners such as Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes. One of my favourite tracks from Nas latest album, "Life Is Good". I can relate to this.

Alias & Fakts One - Advantage

The latest single from their album “Second Chances” gets the visual treatment courtesy of Ill Mannered Films. Alias reflects on his own raw life experiences over the hypnotic soul chops of Fakts One. Shot & directed by @MysterDL.

Glass City - Hip-Hop Glory

On November 20th, Wu-Tang Clan affiliate/Guinness World Record Freestylist M-Eighty will drop the highly anticipated album “Home Grown Internationally Known”. The LP pays tribute to the rappers hometown of Toledo, OH by featuring all Toledo-based Emcees and Producers alongside the pairing of M-Eighty & newcomer and fellow Toledo native Nino Graye. The duo known as “Glass City”, will be embarking on a 15-date Midwest tour in November alongside the likes of Kid Ink, Cappadonna, & Bronze Nazareth in support of their debut. Fans can expect several videos spawning from the LP’s release including featured tracks “Hip-Hop Glory”, “911”, “Burn it Up”, “Lose My Sheeeit!” & the collegiate-anthem “FAH-Q”. When asked how the duo came up with the name for their group and the title for their debut, M-Eighty remarked by stating, “I am a home grown product of Toledo, OH who never stopped loving my roots and 30-years later I am that internationally recognized Artist/A&R/Executive that people notice and I still keep it 1000% with my peers. “Glass City” is a nickname for Toledo, OH aka The Renaissance City and though the group is just Nino and I, we definitely showed a lot of love to the artists grinding in Toledo and gave the community a sense of hope that big things can happen if we all learn to motivate and persevere together.” Glass City “Home Grown Internationally Known” drops 11-20-12 on Holy Toledo Productions/Flow-4-Ever Entertainment.

J. NiCs - G-Code

J. NiCs & Last Rights team up with Derick G to create the G-Code visual experience.

Cool Nutz - Champagne Toast

Portland, Oregon has never been looked at as a Mecca for Urban music and culture. However, there have always been a few people that have carried that flag proudly. Not only locally; but globally. Cool Nutz has been a shining light for the cities under acknowledged Hip-Hop scene. With 7 critically acclaimed solo albums under his belt, Cool Nutz releases his 8th solo album entitled “Portland Ni%#a”. The title of the album represents more a mindset and history of music that exists in the city but doesn’t tend to get the credit and spotlight it deserves. Music that represents the cities harsher and more non-rural side. With a release date of August 28th, Cool Nutz has enlisted hip-hop heavyweights to assist in creating the electrifying audio landscape for “Portland Ni%#a”. Look for features from Tech N9ne, The Grouch, Krizz Kaliko, Messy Marv, Mistah Fab, Bosko, and more. Production duties are handled by Bosko(Big Boi, E-40, J.Cole), Trox(50Cent, Krizz Kaliko, Kottonmouth Kings), Lawz Spoken, JEB, Stewart Villain, InfinitRakz, and Krispy Hendrixx. “Portland Ni%#a” will be released for 100% FREE via Cool Nutz’s website www.CoolNutz.net and is being used as a promotional tool to introduce him as the most recent signing to independent super label Suburban Noize Records.

Gensu Dean - Alice In Wonderland (Feat. David Banner)

The Grand Imperial Gensu Dean caused waves with his Mello Music Group debut LP Lo-Fi Fingahz. Never one to rest on his laurels, the southern beat maestro is ready to announce his sophomore project with the legendary Planet Asia. The new project is titled Abrasions and will be out this winter! But to hold fans over in the meantime, Dean is dropping some new visuals for his collaboration with David Banner, “Alice In Wonderland”. Conceived and directed by Calvan Fowler of Daydream Filmworks, the same mind and lens that directed Dean’s previous video “Forever feat. Large Professor”, this clip is a trip down the rabbit hole complete with mad hatters, giant rabbits and sadistic doctors. David Banner sounds energized as he plays off Deans’ smooth guitar sample in a two-verse tale about a woman done wrong. The two Mississippi natives show great chemistry in the clip, no surprise since the two go back years—their first work together was more than 10 years ago when Banner was in the heralded group, Crooked Lettaz. “Alice In Wonderland” can be found on the stellar Lo-Fi Fingahz album, still available on cd, vinyl, and digital. Stay tuned for more news on the Gensu Dean & Planet Asia album, Abrasions, coming on Mello Music Group.

Kardinal Offishall & Nottz Raw - Mr. Parker (Feat. Shi Wisdom)

Enjoy. Remember. Reflect. Relate. Re-live. Realize. Re-invent. Kardinal and Nottz (on the beat) link up with Shi Wisdom to bring you "Mr.Parker". A song about growing up and living with the challenges of an education system that is built for "us" to fail (or atleast having it be very difficult to succeed). With little encouragement, many of us have overcome and beat the system, no thanx to "Mr.Parker". I posted this way to late but I love this song so it had to be shared!

Skyzoo - JanSport Strings

The official video for "JanSport Strings", the Lead single off Skyzoo's upcoming album 'A Dream Deferred' out Oct. 2nd on The Faculty/Duck Down Music Inc. Skyzoo describes the video and the song in his own words. "The video, directed by Anthony Sylvester, was shot throughout Bed Stuy, Brooklyn NY. The theme was to show the parallels between me as a 9-year old aspiring emcee and me now as an accomplished emcee and artist, and how the things around me that groomed me haven't changed. The song is a 3-minute auto-bio of me as a kid in Brooklyn. The ending is a clip from Video Music Box, the legendary NYC video show run by DJ Ralph McDaniels. This episode in particular was the debut of Chi-Ali's 'Age Ain't Nothin But A Number'. Seeing that video that day on this episode of VMB made me start rhyming. This clip was literally the moment that changed my life. And the Chi-Ali tee shirt is pretty amazing. They'll be on sale soon. Enjoy...""

Skyzoo - Give It Up

The official video for the new single "Give It Up" featuring DJ Prince. Produced by !llmind (Kanye West, 50 Cent, Ludacris, Scarface), the single mashes vintage dirty hip hop drums and 808s with dubstep grime, is a staple of !llmind's new signature "boom-trap" sound, which can most recently be found via his production on "The Morning" by Kanye West & G.O.O.D. Music off of the Cruel Summer album. Topped with Sky's signature "slick talk" lyricism, the song is a subwoofer's dream come true. I honestly have to say that this is the worst song from Skyzoo I have ever heard.

Music video by Nas performing "Bye Baby". From his latest released album "Life Is Good". One of my favourite songs of that album.

KeilyN - Flight 89

Directed by Walter Nini, KeilyN lets loose the first official visual off Timing, "Flight 89." Over a smooth instrumental, "Flight 89" is an introspective and metaphorical song about his life from the vantage point of his all-time favorite kicks, the Flight 89's.

MidaZ the Beast & IMAKEMADBEATS - Flyers

A word of advice - spell the man's name right on your flyers, b. MidaZ the Beast lets loose verbal assault on faulty show promoters in the new DIY-clip for "Flyers," off IMAKEMADBEATS' Daylight/Nightlight. The BlakOut duo have had their fair share of problems with lazy promoters across the country butchering their names (Midas and IMAKEDABEATS, anyone?), but after this video it's unlikely that it will continue to be an issue.

Brother Ali - Mourning in America

This is the title track to my new album, Mourning in America and Dreaming in Color. The first half of the album highlights and critiques the dire situation in which we live. The second half outlines the tremendous opportunity we have to re-imagine and reform our society. This song is an observation and a critique of our culture of death and murder. From actual war zones around the world to our own inner cities where this summer's death rates rival war zones. I also address our national hypocrisy regarding violence. We have a zero tolerance policy of violence committed against us, but we're a lot more lenient and patient when it comes to the violence we commit. "A life is a life and a killer is a killer". -Brother Ali

Diggaz With Attitude (Stu Bangas & Vanderslice) - Casino Royale (Feat. Apathy & Blacastan)

"Time Has Come" is just one of many more videos you can expect to find from Baysiqly's "Leonidas" project, as the Vagabonds begin work on E.R.'s solo endeavor, "Year of the Vagabond", as well as the next Vagabonds group project.

Reks - La Luna (Feat. Sene, Koncept & Venessa Renee)

One of my favorite songs of Reks lastest album, "REBELutionary".

Jern - Modern Slang

In the tradition of stellar artists and producers hailing from Virginia comes Jern; a Norfolk native with a style and flow unlike any of his predecessors. His stamp of approval is official as he's been blessed to rock on tracks produced by Nottz and featured on songs with Mic Legacy, Khizman of DMP, Che Grand and Truck North of The Roots. However, Jern is not defined simply by who he's worked with - his definitions speaks for themselves on the ode to the legendary DITC member, Big L. Modern Slang is an adaptation of Ebonics, updated with new slang and peppered with VA style, while never departing from the real hip-hop vibe. Jern's witty wordplay and classic production by TROT, along with scratches by the highly respected DJ Strez makes "Modern Slang" a gem for both Golden Era purists and new schoolers alike.

Greg Grease - Basement Soul

Never heard of this rapper but this is really nice. Enjoy!

Labba – 1000 Lbs. (Action Bronson & Ike Eyes)(Prod. by PF Cuttin)

Don't know who the others are but Action Bronson always deserve to get posted!

Gyasi Kamau & Ohbliv - ohblivioUS

Shootings of youth have become the norm for Chicago news. Chicago rapper Gyasi Kamau, producer Ohbliv and hiphop blogger, shine a light on the ongoing Chicago violence. "OhblivioUS" begins with a nod to JFK's iconic "Ask not what you can do for your country" speech and concludes with singing reminiscent of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On". Gyasi Kamau provides commentary and asks the questions we all wonder when we catch wind of the Windy City violence using a poetic flow laced with internal rhyme. Ohbliv's soulful production combined with newsroom visuals make "OhblivioUS" more than just a music video - its a public service announcement.

Doe Cigapom - CagedBirds (Feat. DaNedra Rowel)

Doe Cigapom (“Deliver On Emotions” & “Can I Get Peace Of Mind”) acronym illustrates his mission to shed light on the very real healing powers of music. Throughout his own difficult life experiences, music has been the remedy for Doe’s peace of mind. Doe was born and raised in Washington D.C. at a time when our nation’s capital was undergoing historic struggles. This undeniably had a direct impact on his upbringing, but as Doe emphasizes “there was always music” as his main source of solace. As it often happens for many of our most cherished artists, as a child Doe became mesmerized by the music (particularly the drums) of the church services he attended as a child with his mother, prompting him to pursue teaching music and eventually becoming one of the most preeminent timbales and conga players in the effervescent “Go Go” music scene of D.C. while still only a teenager. After college, Doe’s interests gradually began shifting towards a more Hip-Hop related sound, which combined his rhythmic abilities with his love of poetry. Soon thereafter, he began rapping at local venues, using it as a therapeutic platform to confront the painful experiences of his past; and as Doe states “giving him a new lease of life.” This summer, Doe Cigapom will release a collaborative EP entitled, CagedBirds, with producer Soulful! via the upstart Indie Love Enterprises Company. The first taste of the CagedBirds EP can be seen here as the group releases their self-titled first video “CagedBirds” f/ DaNedra Rowel.

Nina B - Somebody’s Daughter (Nas Cover)

Nina B, New York's most promising female hip hop artist, gets heartfelt over the instrumental of Nas’ “Daughters.” Nina recounts Nas’ influence on her and her chance meeting with Nas.
“Nas has always been such a big influence on my career in so many ways, meeting him a while back reaffirmed why I love painting portraits with words. Minutes before taking this picture for BET, Nas gave me advice which would be the proverbial polish to my diamond/gift. He told me to write from the heart and not from the head; besides "The heart knows more about beats, the head recalls events, but heart recreates the moments feeling." Listening to "Daughters" vividly brought me back to that moment and this is what I recorded---enjoy”!
Nina B’s forthcoming LP collaboration with DJ Jazzy Joyce, "Titles Are Played Out." will be released on 8-21-2012 and includes features by Action Bronson, Skyzoo and Dylan of 'Making The Band.'

14KT - Blessed

14KT is blessed and he knows it. In the video for his track "Blessed", the Ypsilanti producer takes the viewer on a tour of his life, highlighting key aspects that make it worth living. KT takes us into his home life to see his family, he shows us his studio and we tag along as he goes digging at Encore Recordings in neighboring Ann Arbor. The magic is in the details: being in the kitchen with moms, the genuine daps exchanged with the crew in the studio and geeking out with Buff1 over a Mongo Santamaria vinyl at the record shop. KT says, "Blessed was basically all shot on a random Sunday. Andy (film director) and I just grabbed the camera and press record. Most of the video wasn't planned. I wanted to give everyone a mini-photo album of candid "normal" moments that I get to experience daily. As "normal" as these things may look, many people don't get the opportunity to experience what many may consider a "normal" life. Hence the title, Blessed. " There's a part towards the end of the video where KT is outside while it snows, alone and visibly elated. There is often an underlying theme of faith in KT's work and "Blessed" is no different. It's not explicit, but one can infer KT's gratitude for a life filled with family, friends and music, truly a blessing.

La Coka Nostra - Mind Your Business (Prod DJ Premier)

Always known for tackling controversial topic matter, the group’s sophomore project, Masters Of The Dark Arts, (release date 7-31-2012) finds them once again in torch-bearing mode, addressing subjects that most artists shy away from as ILL BILL illustrates “as conceptually and musically dark as this album appears to be, there's also a flip side layer to it that you may not notice until you listen to it a few times. Masters Of The Dark Arts is a storm before the calm and a celebration of the good things in life that can only be achieved by walking directly into the heart of darkness and facing your inner demons head on." While the group’s roster has been trimmed slightly due to Everlast having to leave the group (for personal reasons), La Coka Nostra returns re-invigorated and fresh off of a recently completed seventeen-city European tour which saw them rock crowds in eleven different countries “I think we approached Masters Of The Dark Arts with a chip on our shoulder and really took it back to our original mission of hardcore Hip-Hop amidst all the circus bullshit that is so prevalent in the current landscape of the genre. We are aware of the perception that somehow the group has suffered a loss we can’t recover from and in response we made an album that is the most conceptually focused and hardest hitting soundscape in the group’s history” Slaine asserts. La Coka Nostra’s Masters Of The Dark Arts will impact on 7-31-2012 and be released by Fat Beat Records.
